Well Woman Exam Q & A

What is a well-woman exam?

A well-woman exam is a comprehensive evaluation of your overall health and well-being. The focus of the exam is prevention. At your annual visit, Dr. Savci assesses your general and reproductive health to find and treat health issues before they turn into chronic problems.

Dr. Savci is an experienced OBGYN who takes a patient-centered approach to care, catering to her patient’s needs to give them the individual care and attention they need and deserve.

With this approach, Dr. Savci also helps create a more trusting patient-doctor relationship that ultimately leads to better care. At Comprehensive OBGYN PA, Dr. Savci believes in building long-term relationships, providing care throughout each stage of a patient’s life.

She provides comprehensive gynecology care and well-woman exams for teenagers and adults.

What happens during a well-woman exam?

The specifics of your well-woman exam depend on your age, gynecological and medical history, and personal health concerns. However, you can expect Dr. Savci to ask detailed questions about your menstrual cycle, sexual activity, and specific health needs and concerns.

She performs a physical, pelvic, and breast exam and may run routine lab tests to assess general health and well-being.

After your exam, Dr. Savci reviews her findings with you and provides recommendations to maintain or improve your current and future health. She also spends time talking to you about breast cancer awareness and the importance of monthly self-breast exams.

Dr. Savci may also talk to you about birth control for family planning and health, as well as vaccinations to protect from contagious diseases. She offers the vaccine for the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a sexually transmitted disease with links to cervical cancer.

Do I need any tests during a well-woman exam?

Dr. Savci may perform various health screenings during your well-woman exam based on your age and health history. Types of testing may include:

  • Pap smear
  • HPV test
  • Mammogram
  • Testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
  • Bone density scan
  • Check of blood hormone levels
  • Blood work to screen for diabetes and high cholesterol

You may benefit from other tests depending on the findings during your well-woman exam. For example, Dr. Savci may request a gynecological ultrasound if she thinks you may have ovarian cysts or fibroids
